With life as it is these days, daily practice becomes more important than ever. We practice wakeful, kindly presence for our own self-care, for the ability to show up for others, to bring our greatest wisdom to each other and to this earth—for all the reasons unique to us, we practice.
We offer this series of practice opportunities to support each of us and all of us in a life of wakeful presence. Please join us for any and all that fit your life.
Each of these events will convene using Zoom™. Join via a computer that has audio and video capability, with a reliable high-speed internet connection. Please, no phones for these events. iPads or tablets that can be set on a stable surface and are capable of displaying at least 25 Zoom participants are permissible.

The practice of mindfulness calls on us to wake up to exactly how things are right here, right now. This present moment awareness sometimes brings about relief and ease, and sometimes it doesn’t, but it always points us to a genuine experience of our own precious life.
You might be drawn to take the MBSR course for many reasons—to relieve stress of all kinds, to soothe emotional and physical pain, to live and love more fully, to establish a regular practice of mindfulness, and more. The 8-week MBSR course is an evidence-based, intensive exploration of the practice of mindfulness, and what it means to practice mindfulness in your own life. If you have a strong commitment to be part of a group of meditators practicing regularly—when it’s pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral—please join us.
The online MBSR course provides all the instruction and materials you need to practice mindfulness weekly within a group, and daily on your own.

Margaret Fletcher has a love for contemplative practice in community. She has been practicing yoga and meditating for over 15 years, and has been teaching for almost that long. In 2007 she was invited by Norman Scrimshaw to share the dharma in the form of “satsang” which translates as home of the heart. Margaret trained and taught yoga posture practice in the Ashtangha tradition. She has led silent retreats for White Mountain Sangha, for the Unitarian Universalist Church, and for MBSR and mindfulness practitioners. She has spent time on extended retreats sitting with Zen, Vipassana and Insight Dialogue practice communities.

The moment we give close attention to anything, even a blade of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself.
By closely attending to each moment of your life, you meet it honestly. This close attending is where mindfulness practice can help—with the clear seeing, and the bravery it takes to stay with what arises and live from whatever you may find.
But how can you take up the pen to describe what you find in the moments of your life without losing the immediacy and mystery of direct experience? One way is to learn to recognize and tell the truth. Caribbean-American poet and activist June Jordan says that “the first function of poetry is to tell the truth, to learn how to do that, to find out what you really feel and what you really think.”
In this retreat-style workshop, we will practice recognizing within our body, mind, and heart what feels true, then offering that truth as poetry. No experience with meditation or poetry is required; you don’t even have to like poetry to participate. The only thing you must bring is a childlike willingness to explore and wonder, and engage with meditation, each other, and the written word.
The poetry writing will begin before we ever meet, with suggested brief readings and the co-creation of a poem via email. Once together, we will use this collective expression as an entry point into further exploration of what it means to recognize your truth and express it as only you can. You will be guided in meditation, and also have times of silence to reflect and write, take walks, and so on, with encouragement to nourish yourself throughout.
You will leave the workshop having contributed to a group poem, and having written on your own. Beyond the workshop, you will have the opportunity to work on your writing and share it electronically with the others who will have participated in this unique experience of poetry and practice.
NOTE: This offering is not recorded. You will receive an email before the workshop with more information, including the schedule we’ll follow, how to prepare, and what to bring.

Slowing down and turning toward ourselves with kindness isn’t easy: we live in a world where being overextended and ignoring or downplaying our own pain and stress can seem normal, maybe even admirable. The Kindness Retreat is an opportunity to pause and offer your precious mind, wise body, and tender heart what is most helpful and kind—and to support others who want to do the same. Separated by time zones, we will come together in a timeless zone—a virtual heart space in which this weekend retreat will unfold.
Designed for graduates of the MBSR, MBCT or Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) courses (or for those who have an established formal mindfulness practice), this silent online retreat is for anyone who wants to step away from their usual goings-on to see more clearly what is actually called for. From there, you will be invited to give to yourself whatever that may be, and to hold the space for others to extend care and kindness to themselves. A commitment to nurture all of who you are, while holding to a high standard of practice, will form the container for group practice.
Note: Participating in this retreat satisfies the requirement of attending a 3-day, silent, teacher-led retreat before entering the East Coast Mindfulness MBSR Teacher Training Pathway.

a micro-retreat with Rebecca Eldridge
Rebecca, a senior student of Pema Chödrön’s, will be heading into a mostly silent retreat led by her teacher, starting in January. This annual retreat is the heaviest practice period of the year for Gampo Abbey’s resident monastics, with a few lay practitioners invited to join. Rebecca will return to East Coast Mindfulness in March. Please join her before she goes: to practice together, hear teaching, and be in community with others.
Rebecca will also briefly share about "Yarne from Afar," the program that she has put together, in cooperation with Gampo Abbey, to allow others to participate as remote meditators. You can find out more about this unique opportunity here.
