Make Your Offering: How to Gather Students and Get Your MBSR Course Off the Ground

Many people engage in mindfulness teacher training, fewer get a mindfulness teaching practice going. Why? You might run into any number of stumbling blocks: working with institutions, starting a brand-new course in an independent setting, working with local colleagues, being in the marketplace in general. You may have personal challenges that make it difficult for you to reach out, to get things going.

You are invited into this 3-week program, to consider “the teaching before the teaching.” There are many steps involved that lead to MBSR or mindfulness students walking into a room to participate in a class. This program is designed to get real about the challenges and learning opportunities available before you ever sit down with a circle of students.

This course is led by Margaret Fletcher.

During this program you will:

  • Consider the stage prior to teaching MBSR as a worthy mindfulness practice
  • Discuss the ethos of offering MBSR and mindfulness programs in your community
  • Identify the networks, supports and colleagues you have; those who might be interested in hosting or participating in a class, and those you might support as well
  • Tap into your own unique heart and creativity, ponder your particular situation, and make a plan to move forward with teaching

At the end of this program you will:

  • Have more clarity about how you can contribute to the larger sphere of mindfulness in the world
  • Know your next steps, in the practice of teaching and toward what best supports the larger community of mindfulness practitioners and teachers
  • Leave with written communication materials that reflect your values and appreciation for the practice of mindfulness
  • Have a network of mindfulness colleagues to consult with in the future

You will have completed some mindfulness teacher training and have been invited/encouraged by your training institution to begin teaching others at some level. You may be preparing to offer brief introductory programs or ready to begin offering MBSR/MBCT/MBI multi-week mindfulness programs. Please note: prior to the course, you will be asked to briefly describe your training and any history with teaching via a pre-program questionnaire.

Required Technology:

  • High-speed internet connection
  • Laptop or desktop with speaker, microphone, and video capability; full-sized screens ensure face-to-face connection among all participants. No phones or tablets.
  • Current version of Zoom installed
